Northern Norway 1945. Retreating German forces burnt down more than 12000 houses and other valuable infrastructure in Finnmark and Northern Troms in late 1944 and early 1945. More than 50000 inhabitants were forced from their homes and livestock were slaughtered. The popolations and their livestock suffered tremendously during the brutal executed scorched earth operations when ill-diciplied and often drunken German soldiers torched houses, looted, raped and commited cruelties.
