Why should a film canister hide be boring? I call this a Matryoshka cache: a log sheet in a cut off plastic nano, in a pared down metal bison tube, in a container made from the top part of an empty glue stick, in a film canister. A surprise for the finder that it's not "just another micro". You can find metal & plastic bison tubes at islandbuttons.com I'll be taking it to my Maker Madness events (GC50ACT, GC1DRAT) as a demonstration cache, and I have a hide similar to this (GC45655).

It's what's on the inside! Instead of putting a log book in your cache, fill it with plastic gold coins, and put a round paper sticker on the back of each. Finders sign a piece of gold as their log entry. To make it more fun, I've seen boxes like little treasure chests at the Dollar Store (probably for jewelry). Hide it inside a waterproof container to keep it dry.

If you have an old VHS tape sitting at home, turn it into a creative cache! The cassettes are pretty easy to open, & you can replace the tape with a log strip. Put in a tight container & hide in the woods. If you use Rite in the Rain paper it will probably be stronger, and since it's waterproof you have to worry less about moisture. Not your typical fake log or stump. A wedge of wood is hinged to the stump; swing it up to reveal the container. Just make sure it's on your own land or you have permission to modify the stump. Here would be a good Halloween geocache. :) And the Dollar Store carries fake arms in the costume section at Halloween time.
