Aquarium snails for your freshwater planted tanks. Freshwater snails are a great addition to creating a nice healthy environment for your planted shrimp tanks. They eat algae and dead plant material.

Ramshorn snails are popular aquarium snails. They grow fast and they grow large too. The ramshorn snail pictured above is from one of my planted shrimp tanks. They are great additions to planted aquariums. These aquarium snails eat mostly decaying plants and don't seem to eat the healthy plants. If you want more just leave dead plant pieces and extra food in your aquariums. If you keep your aquariums cleaner they reproduce very slowly and are easy to maintain.

Apple snail taking algae wafer from orange sakura shrimp. There is also a little peppered corydora fry in the back. I like to put the corydora eggs on the sides of the shrimp tanks. The shrimp will graze on the eggs keeping them clean. After the little corydoras leave the eggs the shrimp eat what remains of the catfish eggs of the glass.

Japanese trapdoor snails in aquariums and container ponds. The larger darker ones are the adults and the smaller more colorful are the younger aquarium snails. They can be kept healthy and happy in a wide range of conditions. These are from indoor aquariums, container ponds, and a stock tank. They eat algae, dead plants, sinking fish food, and blanched vegetables. They make excellent additions to your aquariums and ponds.

Bladder snail laying eggs on aquarium glass. Healthy bladder snails will lay eggs all over your aquariums. To control snail growth in your planted aquariums just clean your glass once a week. Bladder snails will reproduce more quickly in tanks with excess food and debris. Be sure to keep your aquariums clean and your snails will be a healthy addition to your planted aquariums.

Japanese trapdoor snail and neocaridina shrimp on driftwood. These snails are great for aquariums and ponds. They do not breed like most freshwater snails. Japanese trapdoor snails give live birth. They also have far fewer babies each time and reproduce less often. They are also great for ponds and outdoor water features.

Apple snails are great aquarium snails to have in your shrimp tanks. They eat the excess food and they eat algae. Unfortunately apple snails will also eat some of your aquarium plants. They get large, grow quickly, and come in a variety of colors. Apple snails are often sold as mystery snails. The apple snail above is one I had for a very long time in my shrimp tanks. They are voracious feeders and will eat almost anything. You can see the one above pushing through shrimp for an algae wafer.
