· c1340 Matilda, widow and second wife of Brian Fitzalan of Bedale who is there with his first wife Muriel. SEE ATTACHED 1 Matilda and Brian had 2 daughters , Katherine and Agnes who were Brian's heirs, his 3 sons by his first wife having pre-deceased him. This slab was used as a lintel over the door leading to the bell tower. Partly chipped away under her left elbow by bell-ringers after bumping their heads in the doorway.
