A complete lesson on inertia with a guided inquiry lab, fully editable notes, and formative assessment opportunities with both a worksheet and quiz that asks students to explain their understandings. Perfect for a full introduction to the 1st Law of Motion. This is a complete lesson suitable for introducing the law of inertia: • a three page guided investigation of inertia using plastic track, marbles, and a meter stick • a 13 page fully editable powerpoint file for use after the investigation that discusses the property of inertia and the law of inertia, plus a short 3 slide powerpoint introducing the investigation • a check for understanding worksheet that asks students to justify their answers in terms of inertia • a quiz that asks students to demonstrate the understanding of the law of inertia in action. The powerpoint and the lab have teacher notes where appropriate that describe key points along the way. Answer keys are included for the quiz and the worksheet. In the presentation, there is a short video demonstrating the effect of friction on a skateboarder on a U shaped ramp that ties in nicely with the investigation that was just completed. All of my powerpoints have simple, unobtrusive animations so that students are not bombarded with text on a slide. I have found that when there is too much text, students turn off their brain and simply copy as much as they can - without thinking about what they are writing. Including animations allows you to "release" information as the discussion progresses and also allows you to facilitate rich scientific discussion in your classroom, resulting in deeper thinking and engaged students. The preview file is all of the powerpoint slides plus all of the student sheets for the lab and subsequent practice. I have tons of other great products here on TpT.
