Charles Frank Chilton was born in Texas in the 1904, and lived most of his life in Phoenix, Arizona. He spent his later years in Bellflower, California before passing on Feb. 22, 1973. A true Plein Air artist, Frank loved to paint landscapes on-site. He is best known for desert and forest landscapes subjects painted in oil. With his earlier works he signed "C_F Chilton" or "Charles Frank Chilton", but after a short time he used "Frank Chilton" almost exclusively. He has hundreds of paintings in private collections and galleries around the U.S. Frank was a bachelor, but had a large extended family, many of whom were artists including his great niece and nephew, Dan and Carol Cadwell. They are prolific artists themselves, today living in Boise, Idaho where this painting was acquired.
