# Beginning of Year 4th Grade Math Pre-Assessment Test Print & Digital Set

Product details

This pre-assessment assesses key third grade skills in the five domains of the Math Common Core State Standards: Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Number & Operations in Base Ten, Number & Operations Fractions, Measurement & Data, and Geometry. It has a total of 34 questions (35 points total). This assessment can also be used at the end of the year with third graders as a summative assessment. The questions are nearly identical in both versions, but the Google Forms version has been formatted to have multiple-choice answers, whereas the print version has mostly free-response questions. The digital version can be assigned on Google Classroom, so it is completely paperless, and it is self-grading and completely editable. The pre-assessment is designed to help teachers determine how much incoming fourth graders remember third grade math standards at the beginning of the year. I know most teachers receive state test scores before the school year starts, but I find that many students fall victim to the summer slide and forget much of what they had learned the previous year. Therefore, I give this pre-test the very first week of school before I start math instruction, so I can gauge where my students are. From the results, I can create math groups, know my students strengths and weaknesses, and better adjust my instruction to meet the needs of my students. It is also great data to show parents during conferences. It assesses key third grade math skills and concepts from each domain, but I intentionally did not design this pre-test to mirror the rigor of the state test. I wanted an assessment that would simply assess students readiness for fourth grade math. A data sheet is also included, so teachers can record the students' scores. An answer key is also included for the print version. The digital version answer key is embedded within the Google form. Here is the breakdown of the test:Operations & Algebraic Thinking (7 points)Interpret the products and quotients of whole numbersApply properties of operationsDetermine the unknown whole number in multiplication or division equationsNumber & Operations in Base Ten (8 points)Round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100Add and subtract whole numbers within 1000Multiply one-digit whole numbers by multiples of 10 in the range 10-90Number & Operations - Fractions (7 points)Model simple fractionsRepresent a fraction on a number lineExpress whole numbers as fractions and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbersCompare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their sizeMeasurement & Data (7 points)Tell and write time to the nearest minuteSolve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutesMeasure areas by counting unit squaresSolve problems involving perimeters of polygonsGeometry (6 points)Identify polygons, including quadrilateralsPartition shapes into parts with equal areas and express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the wholeIf you like this resource, please check out my other products:End of the Year IdeasLanguage Arts ResourcesMath ResourcesProject/Class Activity Ideas4th & 5th Grade Social Studies Resources4th & 5th Grade Task CardsClick HERE to follow my store!Purchasing this resource gives you the license to use in YOUR CLASSROOM only.
