This beautiful Southern Plains stemmed club, is a rare find. Made from a dark grey/black hard stone, or creek rock, it measures 4" L x 2" W x 1" Depth. Hammerstones, mauls, and clubs, were usually naturally-formed stones, that were slightly altered for hafting. Used, in part, for heavy percussion, such as breaking large flakes of flint, to create projectiles. This one is stemmed, and the only one I have ever seen like it. A personal find, discovered in Central Arkansas, at a road construction site, and guaranteed to be authentic.
