Interestingly, after Nicholas was forced to abdicate in 1917, the Alexander Palace at Tsarskoe Selo became too dangerous for the Imperial Family so Nicholas petitioned the Provisional Government under Alexander Kerensky to allow him and his family to live quietly at the Livadia as private citizens. Kerensky refused and the rest is an historic tragedy."
