ALTERNATIVES TO "DON'T BE RUDE"

The problem with “don’t” statements is: they’re pretty vague. Kids might know what *not* to do, but they are missing info on what *to* do instead. The other problem? They tend to overlook the underlying reason the behavior is happening in the first place. Responding to the behavior without addressing the underlying cause is like pressing “snooze” on an alarm clock. It might stop the behavior—for now—but it’s not a long-term solution.
