Sigrid Undset (1882-1949) is one of three Norwegian authors to have received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Undset received the Prize in 1928, for her two series of novels set against the background of medieval Norway in the 13th century: the 3-volume Kristin Lavransdatter, and the 4-volume Olav Audunssønn. W.H.Auden was born in York in 1907 and was considered one of the foremost writers of the last century. He spent much of his life in America and died in Austria in 1973.

He lived with the modern artist community in Montparnasse Paris. His most famous poem was The Breast of Tiresas. He's also known for his writing The Exploits of Don Jaun.

Tarjei Vesaas (20 August 1897, Vinje - 15 March 1970) was a Norwegian poet and novelist. Born in Vinje, Telemark, Vesaas is widely considered to be one of Norway's greatest writers of the twentieth century and perhaps its most important since World War II. His debut was in 1923 with Children of Humans (Menneskebonn), but he had his breakthrough in 1934 with The Great Cycle (Det store spelet).
