Hundreds of prayers written on neatly folded pieces of paper are tied to this rack in front of Sanjusangen-Do in Kyoto.  This temple contains 1001 statues of Kunnan, the buddhist goddess of mercy, along a few dozen statues of various Japanese buddhist deities.  Well, minus a few, there are three to be seen in the National museum in Tokyo.

For the past 3 years the Los Angeles City of Hope has "wish trees" in front of its cancer research facility. These trees are filled with thousands of notes from staff patients and loved ones who have been affected by cancer. City of Hope is home to many people undergoing cancer treatments as well as many labs for cancer research. These wish trees were adapted from a Japanese tradition and stand proudly outside City of Hope as a reminder that wishes really can come true  . . . #losangeles…

O-mikuji:  Idea- get strips of paper in pale orange, red, yellow, etc. Have people write their well-wishes on it and tie it to a little tree! It'll look like leaves! SO CUTE!
