The meerkat or suricate (Suricata suricatta) is a small carnivoran belonging to the mongoose family (Herpestidae). They live in family groups. They live around 7 years in the wild and 14 years in captivity.

A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of years, and about half this in the wild.
I LOVE meerkats. They're one of the cutest little bundles of sweetness! I miss watching meerkat manor on animal planet. I'll be the first to admit I cried like a baby when flower died.
