Les panneaux en bois sont enduits de plusieurs couches de gros blanc (blanc de Meudon mélangé à de la colle de peau), sur lequel les motifs sont tracés au pochoir puis creusés à l’aide de fers à reparer (outils du doreur), avant d’être dorés à la feuille d’or.
