Les Miserables | The Elephant de Bastille, shown as drawn by architect Jean Alavoine, was a plaster model of what was intended by Napoleon to be a bronze statue, and stood near the Place de la Bastille from 1813-1846. The elephant -- or rather, its disintegration -- was commemorated in Les Miserables by Hugo. It will also be featured in director Tom Hooper's big screen adaptation (2012) of the musical Les Miserables.
