Henry Tandey, VC, DCM, MM (30 August 1891 – 20 December 1977) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Lachhiman Gurung was a Nepalese WWII soldier who joined the British-Indian Army despite being only 4'11. He & his company were attacked by 200 Japanese while stationed in Burma. He threw back 3 grenades tossed into his trench. The 3rd exploded, destroying his right arm & badly wounding him & his comrades. Now alone, Gurung proceeded to use his left arm to hold off the enemy for 4 hours, firing his rifle at point blank range. He killed 31 Japanese & was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery.

Lieutenant Algie was awarded the Victoria Cross for his conduct on October 11, 1918, during the final day of the advance to Cambrai, France, by the Canadian Corps. When his troops came under heavy machine gun fire from a nearby village, Lt Algie rushed forward with nine men and disabled the crew of one machine gun and then turned it on the enemy.
