The saiga antelope is one of the world’s most ancient living mammals, having shared the Earth with saber-toothed tigers and woolly mammoths, 250,000 years ago. Le Saïga. Le nez très atypique de ce mammifère vivant dans la steppe eurasienne en fait un animal aisément reconnaissable. Ce dernier lui permet de filtrer la poussière soulevée par le troupeau lorsque celui-ci se déplace. 2 millions étaient recensés en 1950, moins de 50 000 à la fin du XXe siècle… Aujourd'hui, il en resterait à peine un millier, à cause notamment de la surchasse.
