Tha Padmapani, a mural at the Ajanta caves. The first Buddhist cave monuments at Ajanta date from the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. During the Gupta period (5th and 6th centuries A.D.), many more richly decorated caves were added to the original group. The paintings and sculptures of Ajanta, considered masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, have had a considerable artistic influence.

The Mogao Caves, or Caves of the Thousand Buddhas, form a system of 492 temples 25 km (16 mi) southeast of the center of Dunhuang, an oasis strategically located at a religious and cultural crossroads on the Silk Road, in Gansu province, China.

The Mogao Grottoes are famous for their exquisite mural paintings and Buddha statues. It has 735 grottoes, square meters of mural paintings, colored Buddha statues made of clay, and more than historical relics. They are also know as the Monao Caves.
