Kakapo - Strigops habroptilus - This species of bird is of the family Strigopidae. It is a large, nocturnal, flightless and ground-dwelling parrot. As of March 2014, only 128 living individuals are known, making it critically endangered. The New Zealand government is willing in the use of some predator-free islands to aid in the conservation of this bird (3 islands in use now, 2 more to come)
