EXCERPT: Circa1520- The young ladies wear plain velvet kirtles. The construction of the centre brown velvet, gown is very interesting. It appears to be lined with red velvet but she could also be wearing another red gown underneath. The hoods of this period are still low on the head. The centre French hood and the one on the left show the band of silk keeping the hood in place before developing into a thinner chinstrap. Their hair is crimped in the french style.
