This would be a cool idea for the first page of a two page spread. We could use a nice quality dominant photo and make the headline big and bold. The vertical headline would be an interesting concept but I'm unsure of how it would look for a yearbook headline considering ours are usually longer than one word.

Clean text, large over photo for texture. grey tones with black and white, feels cold stark and crisp. i LIKE THE font, I like how the A is underlines to balance the T at the top.

This is very simply laid out, with nice pops of color to differentiate sections of copy.  It's interesting to see how the copy works in a vertical format.  The hierarchy still takes your eye to the headline before the body copy and leads you through the images.

Even though this is in Japanese, I am still able to differentiate the hierarchy based on the size of the text and the images that are included in this layout.

Use bold colors and big type to make information super accessible, like 99U Quarterly Magazine does with its page numbers. Its use of large numbers and classic black and yellow make its Table of Contents quite navigable.
