Fokker EII WNr 257.jpg On aircraft that had front-mounted propellers, the field of gunfire was restricted by the propeller & other parts of the aircraft. This is one of the war-time problems for gun-mounting aircraft designs. The problem was solved in 1915 by A. Fokker, who designed an interrupter gear that prevented a machine-gun from firing when a propeller blade passed in front of the barrel.
