Tutsi Basket from Rwanda/Burundi.  14.5" tall x 8" diameter.  The Tutsi women were responsible for weaving baskets, floor mats and wall panels. Basketry weaving was a communal activity which occured during recreational evening gatherings. The black dye comes from boiling banana flowers which creates a black sap.
