Greta Garbo was a Sweedish actress of the silent and "talkies" era.  She remains one of the greatest movie stars that Metro Goldwyn Mayer and the studio system ever produced.  She made the transition from silent films to sound successfully with MGM using the marketing slogan "Garbo talks", which became a catch-phrase of the 1930's
