Watercolour by a young Adolph Hitler. As a boy he had shown natural talent for art. But when he took the entrance exam for the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, his drawings were judged unsatisfactory and he was rejected. This struck him like a bolt of lightning. Later, as Fürer of Germany he would tell ambassador Henderson: “I am an artist and not a politician. Once the Polish question is settled, I want to end my life as an artist.”
