Love the idea of a hallway library - in a small house you need all the space you can get, and it is not always feasible to dedicate an entire room to books. Also, with the entire wall lined with built-in bookcases it makes hidden doors more hidden.
In my NYC days, we spent many weekends at my friend Michael Wager’s house in Roxbury CT. We played bridge around the clock, with occasional breaks for food and rest. His house was a restored barn chock-a-block full of books, antiques and memories.
