Virgin Holidays’ pledge on whale captivity criticised by wildlife charities
Richard Branson’s announcment that Virgin’s partners should no longer take receipt of whales or dolphins captured from the wild does not go far enough, say campaigners

In the boundless waters of the open ocean, a free, wild dolphin can live up to 50 years. A caged dolphin, on the other hand, circles its tiny tank without purpose—often to the point of depression and suicide.
A beached baby dolphin died due to stress after hundreds of tourists touched her and tried to get selfies with the stranded calf. She was dead by the time rescuers could arrive. Demand action to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
The Vancouver aquarium has finally given in to public pressure from animal rights groups and will be ceasing their captivity of whales and dolphins. Captivity of these creatures has led to many deaths over the years, and it is a relief that this aquarium will help put an end to this.
