A fine oval agate cameo, with two layers (red cornelian and white calcedony) of very good carving, depicting the nymph Arethusa. The representation is inspired by the obverse side of a famous coin from the greek city of Syracuse in Sicily.The cameo is set in a nice gold brooch, enhanced with natural pearls and rose-cut diamonds. Perfect condition. France, circa 1860.
