Grosvenor-Strathmore (formerly Grosvenor) serves the residential area of North Bethesda as well as a number of park and ride commuters.  It is the first above-ground station on the western leg of the Red Line, as well as the first station outside of the Capital Beltway. The station lies north of the eastern terminus of Interstate 270 and the Capital Beltway.  Originally to be named Parkside, service to Grosvenor (named for its proximity to Grosvenor Lane) began on July 25, 1984.
