Dress ca. 1795 via The Kyoto Costume Institute

The high waistlines of the Empire and Regency eras meant that little to no adjustment was necessary for maternity fashion. This lovely Italian round gown dates to circa 1795 and despite its generous waistline, would have been fashionable for women.

This is a round gown circa 1795 Italy. A round gown is a gown that is closed all the way down the front. The material is red figured silk satin with floral motif; blue and yellow silk embroidery at hem; fly fringe and tassel ornamentation.

Though simply hued, there is nothing pedestrian about this immensely beautiful regency era gown.
