Two hawk-faced beings stand behind them bearing fruit from the Tree in one hand and the Tablets of Destiny in the other. They represent a humanized version of the ancient Sumerian Storm Bird Zu, who achieved fame assisting the sun god and stealing the Tablets Of Destiny from the vengeful goddess Inanna-Ishtar.

Another association, according to Wilkinson in "Reading Egyptian Art", is the link with the Udjat eye of Horus or Eye of Ra and the protective wings of the Goddesses Aset (Isis), NebtHet (Nephthys), and Ma'at.  This symbol also influenced Hittite, Persian and even Hebrew art.
