Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and has been erupting almost continuously since 1955 with thousands of small explosions and hundreds of minor eruptions every year.

Lassen  Type: lava dome Summit elevation: 10,456 ft. (3,178 m.)  California's Lassen Peak formed abt 27,000 yrs ago & is the largest of a 30+ lava domes in the Lassen volcanic center. Lassen is the southernmost active volcanic center in the Cascade Range.  The last eruptions at Lassen between 1914 and 1917 was climaxed by a May 22, 1915 eruption of a 30,000 ft column of volcanic ash, caused ashfall in Nevada, generated lahars and a large pyroclastic flow. Lassen is likely to erupt again.
