This broadside in the State Archives was published circa 1880 to promote emigration, enticing the working class and other prospective Texans with the “Most Healthy and Agreeable Climate, The Best Timber, The Richest Minerals, The Most Fertile Soil, The Largest Stock Region, And the Greatest Variety of Products to Be Found in the World. GO TO TEXAS!”

The Republic of Texas (1836-1845)

Compared to the current shape of Texas that people...

March 2, 1863 the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed.  It was quickly drafted by George C. Childress, Edward Conrad, James Gaines, Bailey Hardeman, and Collin McKinney.  The battle at the Alamo was already taking place during this time.  Fifty-nine delegates signed this document to separate from Mexico and become the Republic of Texas.
