Baron von Steuben - He was a Prussian who came to fight for the Americans.  He was a major general in the Continental Army and is the person who taught the army drills and tactics that helped them win the war.  He was with George Washington at Valley Forge, where they worked with the troops to make them better.  He was also Washington's chief of staff in the latter part of the war.

Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Ferdinand von Steuben, also referred to as the Baron von Steuben, was a Prussian-born military officer who served as inspector general and Major General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War
