1912 The "surprise" inside is a Russian double-headed Imperial eagle with a miniature portrait of the Czarevich Alexis, set in platinum and encrusted with diamonds. The Imperial eagle holds the orb and sceptre representative of the Romanov crown jewels. The intricate frame sits on a lapis lazuli base and can be completely removed from inside the egg.  Inside the egg, an engraved golden disc with a rose window design serves as a platform for the portrait frame.

1916 Steel Military Egg The last egg received by Alexandra, it was produced under war conditions and was less opulent in design than its predecessors. Fabergé's workshop was busy making military equipment and had less time for eggs.

Just 10 cms high, it is made from gold, enamel and diamonds. The surprise is a silver-plated gold swan sitting on a miniature lake made from an aquamarine. When wound up the swan’s wings spread. Owned by the Fondation Edoaurd et Maurice Sandoz, Lausanne, Switzerland.
