Foto: (jongedame kijkt naar:) Mark Rothko, 'Orange-yellow and white', 1957.

The Rothko Chapel's stillness refreshes some visitors; others look bewildered…

Rothko Chapel; have a chapel with art centered around God, create an atmosphere like no other place. A mesh between a church/cathedral and an art museum; place of pure awe and wonder, a place to reflect on Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God.

The Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas. A sacred space open to all religions; Rothko's work inside is inspiring.

The Rothko Chapel in Houston amazing space for a chapel for all religions and none. It is impossible to capture these canvases as they are all built up black and the room has natural sunlight flooding in. He painted them for a year in natural light and they changed through the day. It's amazing but no image can capture the movement and layers it contains. One of the best things I have ever seen.

AD Classics: Rothko Chapel / Philip Johnson, Howard Barnstone, Eugene Aubry
