Evening Ensemble, Elizabeth Hawes (American, 1903–1971): spring/summer 1934, American, silk. "This dress is a luxurious example of "at-home" wear. Hawes found much inspiration from the work of Madeleine Vionnet, which is exemplary in the cut of the entire garment and the interesting drapery effect at the back. The use of a bold accent and interior lining color in contrast with the dark exterior fabric is a signature of the designers'."
