December 26, 1862 -38 Dakota Warriors were hung in the U.S.A. becoming the largest mass execution still remaining today. The hanging happened in Mankato, Minnesota. Abraham Lincoln signed the papers to have 40 men hung because of the Dakota Uprising. The U.S. did not follow through with their agreement on The Treaty of 1851.

Charles Durning  served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Drafted at age 21, he was first assigned as a rifleman with the 398th Infantry Regiment, and later served overseas with the 3rd Army Support troops and the 386th Anti-aircraft Artillery (AAA) Battalion.     Durning participated in the Normandy Invasion of France on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and was among the first troops to land at Omaha Beach. He earned a Silver star and 3 Purple hearts.

Osmium is both the densest and the rarest element that you can dig out of the Earth. It's so hard that it's used (as an alloy) in places with constant pressure and wear, like the tips of fountain pens. One single cubic inch of this stuff weighs nearly a pound, and were you to somehow get a cubic foot of it, it would weigh over 1,400 pounds. Good luck with that, though: last year, the entire U.S. osmium production was only 165 pounds.
