Goodbye dear friend... It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Rigo, our silverback gorilla, who passed away this morning. Rigo arrived at Melbourne Zoo on May 23, 1973 as a three-year-old and, in 1984, made history when he, and mate Yuska, became parents to the first gorilla ever born in Australia, Mzuri. Rigo has been a much-loved member of the Zoo family for the past 40 years and will be sadly missed.

♪ Ah and all you folks, you come to see You just stand there in the glass looking at me But my heart is wild and my bones are steel And I could kill you with my bare hands if I was free ♬
