Carborundum. Wordt o.a. gebruikt ter verkrijging van plaatselijke reductie in oxiderende atmosfeer. Bijvoorbeeld 0,5% Siliciumcarbide in een alkalisch glazuur met Koper veroorzaakt koperrode reductie effecten. In grotere hoeveelheden toegevoegd ontstaan blazen of kraters in een glazuur.
