This blue lacquer and silver frame is unusual, lacquer being a relatively rare technique in Fabergé’s oeuvre. It was produced in the workshop of Anders Nevalainen, who specialised in frames and enamelled objects. The coloured photograph of Queen Alexandra by W&D Downey dates from 1913.
