A parade of flower-laden children are pictured on the cover of the 1896 Carrie Lippincott catalog cover. The leader carries a banner with Carrie's initials. Next to the children are Chinese primroses. Carrie Lippincott, the self-proclaimed "pioneer seedswoman" and "first woman in the flower seed industry" established her mail-order flower seed business in Minneapolis in 1891. Sending out smaller 5 inch by 7 inch catalogs with colorful covers her business was aimed at women customers.
