Armor design often mimicked clothing fashions. When long-toed shoes were in vogue, long-toed armor also became fashionable. Unfortunately, such armor was only beneficial while the wearer was mounted. If dismounted, it would be impossible to run from one's enemies. It would be comparable to running while wearing skis.
