Anglo Dutch School, circa 1615 A portrait of a lady, three-quarter length, wearing a black dress 45 x 31 x

Eleonor Borghese by Jacob Ferdinand Voet. This Voet portrait shows the ladies could make a wonderful display in something other than studio casual to negligée dress. Her sleeves have accordion pleats separated by bows that emerge from lace engageantes. Her bodice decoration flares outward as it rises up, presumably from a vee waistline. Her hurluberlu coiffure framed with what appear to be ostrich feathers adds to appearance of verdant opulence.

"Femme de Qualité en Habit d'Hyver" (1687), from "Recueil des modes de la cour de France".

This print from on top of being my very favorite century fashion print, finally shows some practicality when it comes to winter fashion. This gentlewoman wears a very cozy looking quilted petticoat, longer sleeves and has a visible pocket.
