Gaustatoppen, Norway. One of the best vista points in the country. A solitary mountain that towers above the surroundings. The view from the summit covers 60,000 km2. Altitude: 1883 masl, prominence: 959 m. This is actually more than some of the highest mountains in the world. For example, Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world has a prominence of 610 m. Gaustadtoppen was first climbed by Jens Esmark in 1810. Esmark was Norway's first professor of geology.
