Apollodorus of Damascus was a Greek engineer from Syria, architect, designer and sculptor who flourished during the 2nd century AD, from Damascus, Roman Syria.[2] He was a favourite of Trajan, for whom he constructed Trajan's Bridge over the Danube for the 105-106 campaign in Dacia.

Portrait of Caligula (Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus), Worcester Art Museum (MA, USA).  Emperor A.D. 37-41. Vermeule dates this bust to ca. A.D. 40. The portrait was discovered in the vicinity of Marino at Lake Albano along with another marble bust of Caligula (see this set) now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. See C.C. Vermeule, Greek and Roman Sculpture in America (1981) pg. 291, cat. #248.
