From talking to parents, it seems clear that yes, there are books they would like their kids not to read, but to go through the effort of having it banned so no one can read it is very extreme.  When I gave examples of books that repeatedly make the list, the parents said it sounds like people don’t want to have to talk to their children about the issues featured in the book, and that’s why they don’t want them reading it.
