Date: Circa 1840 A dark wood netsuke of a coiled rat, gripping its tail as it balances to one side. The creature’s head is notably slender and the nose has a strong angle, both very individual characteristics. The carver has used deeply incised knife strokes for delineate the fur and the beady eyes are inlaid in dark horn. Height: 4 cm Width: 4 cm
