Rateče and its surroundings are starting to develop into a beautiful cross-country skiing center. Some easy tracks run across the flatland by the Slovenian - Italian border, whereas the more advanced skiers can head towards Planica and into the gorgeous Tamar valley beneath the steep walls of the Julian Alps. The tracks also runs from Rateče past Podkoren and all the way to Kranjska Gora where a smaller section is lit during the night. The area has over 30 km of tracks all together.
