Much of trimming dates to 1181, square trimming around neck dates to 13th century, and white silk dates to 18th century.  Traces of original fabric still exist under silk lining.  Early history of this piece mentioned in embroidery inscription in both Latin and Arabic which says it was made in Palermo 1181 for William II of Sicily.
